Born and raised in a snowy village in Northern Ilsabard, Evren discovered his affinity for both black and white magic when nomads from Gyr Abania happened to chance upon his hometown. At the tender age of 7, the boy was touted to be a promising red mage, defending his village from monsters and tending to the sick and injured.On a bright, sunny morning just a few days shy of his 12th birthday, Evren found himself awoken to loud screaming outside of his home as Garlean soldiers invaded his hometown. The Viera village was massacred, leaving Evren the last one standing as he was hiding in a secret underground bunker. When the Garleans discovered him, it was witnessed that a general decided to spare Evren as he "had enough bloodshed for the day". Evren was taken in as a prisoner-of-war, essentially raised by the very people who destroyed his kin. However, the fact that he could use magic was a secret that only the commander knew, and his capture was kept under wraps.Living in captivity, Evren met the Zenos when the young prince visited the labour camp that he was residing in. The two became fast friends in secret as Zenos frequently visited to spar with Evren, making them an uncanny duo.The night before Zenos' ascension as a commander, he went to the labour camp to meet Evren for what seemed like the last time. The troubled prince told Evren that he needed to be gone by daylight, for the attention that a commander gets would potentially expose Evren's ability to use magic to the empire. With one last drink in hand, he cut Evren loose and never looked back.Evren ran for miles and miles on end, weaving through the harsh environment of Ilsabard with his pet weasel SnΓΆ - before he eventually made his way to Ul'dah after the kindness of merchants traveling in Yanxia gave him a ride.Thus began Evren's journey as the Warrior of Light...
